The weekend’s in sight and if you need something to kickstart that Friday feeling, this week’s Ford Ka review is guaranteed to put a smile on your face. We’re getting up close and personal with the Fiat 500’s cousin to find out why it’s still such a popular car almost 20 years after its debut. If you’re in the market for a fun Ford, our Ford Ka finance options could help get you behind the wheel of your own sooner than you think.
Design
The latest generation Ford Ka came into production in 2008 and the cabin has undoubtedly stood the test of time. This 3 door Ka might appear small but, thanks to its height, the cabin is pretty spacious and the raised driver’s seat provides a clear view of the road ahead. There are plenty of handy storage spaces throughout the cabin, including door bins, a cup holder and a glove box – so storing your essentials shouldn’t be an issue. The boot offers a modest 224 litres, but this can be extended to 747 litres when the rear seats are folded flat. Letting customers know that “small cars don’t have to be boring and neither do you”, Ford are determined to prove their quirky design is more than just a reliable city ride.
Performance & Handling
You’re unlikely to be interested in a Ford Ka for its performance, but it’s worth taking a note of the numbers. The hatchback is powered by just one engine – a 68bhp 1.2 litre petrol – which takes 13.4 seconds to get from 0-62mph and tops out at 99mph. Economy is decent, with Ford promising up to 57.7mpg – and annual road tax is just £30, keeping running costs low.
Features
Kicking off the lineup is the Studio trim, which offers stop-start technology, a stereo system and 12v socket – but if you’re looking for a touch more tech, you’ll want to move further up the range. The Studio Connect spec comes with Bluetooth connectivity and alloy wheels – while Zetec models add a heated windscreen. If you’re willing to pay extra, the range-topping Titanium trim gets climate control, rear parking sensors and heated leather seats – and you can also choose from a list of personalisation options, including an array of body colours.
