In this week’s Top 5 Tuesdays, we’re paying tribute to some of the most ugly cars to have been manufactured – past and present. The automobile industry is a versatile sphere of innovative designs, but some cars really break the mould – for better or worse.
If you’re a fan of all things quirky, dive into today’s lineup as we uncover some of the worst looking cars ever made – and whether you’ve got a soft spot for one of these ugly ducklings or would prefer something a little prettier, we’ll tell you how we can help.
Peugeot 1007
It might no longer be in production, but the Peugeot 1007 was once one of the most ugly cars on the road. Despite being pegged as a supermini, the 1007 couldn’t be more different than the stylish designs the market is renowned for.
While the sliding doors might have been handy space savers, they did nothing to maximise the mainstream appeal of this car – and the bulky weight wasn’t suited to the car’s dinky dimensions, either. As far as unattractive motors go, the Peugeot 1007 is up there with the worst looking cars – with many drivers glad to see the back of it.
Citroen C4 Cactus
The Citroen C4 Cactus has been dividing opinion since production began in 2014. While some reviews describe the hatchback as stylish, others criticise the ‘bubble wrap’ bumpers and boxy design.
The C4 Cactus is undoubtedly original in its styling, but we can’t help thinking it looks more like a child’s toy than a credible car. If you’re in the market for the big daddy of Marmite motors, look no further than the Citroen C4 Cactus.
Dacia Duster
We couldn’t miss the next ride from our lineup of ugly cars: the Dacia Duster – a car that seems to think it’s a superhero. The Duster is undeniably easy on the wallet, but it remains to be seen whether it’s easy on the eye.
The SUV offers disaster-proof practicality, but its simple and basic design leaves a lot to be desired for many drivers – and for those on the hunt for a 4×4, the Dacia Duster is a controversial choice to say the least.
Jeep Cherokee
With negative criticism coming in from all angles, the Jeep Cherokee has sparked controversy across the board. While the manufacturers defended their design by saying they wanted to break from tradition, the general consensus is that they should stick to what they know.
By moving away from the classic design of the front grille, the Cherokee lost its famous off-road appeal – which is what interested many buyers in the first place. If Jeep wants to continue attracting buyers, it looks like keeping it classic is the way to go.
BMW i3
It might come as a shock to see the German giant in our lineup of worst looking cars, but the BMW i3 is an unavoidable anomaly. This electric car has plenty of appeal when it comes to performance and economy, but the design is a different story.
BMW has long been at the top of the automobile manufacturing game, but we have no choice but to admit that the i3 is an ugly car that looks nothing like the sleek styling we’re used to.
