Round-up: The Best April Fool’s Day Car Ads

April 1, 2014

April Fool’s Day is upon us and the internet is awash with fake ads from businesses getting in on the fun. The auto industry haven’t missed a trick and it’s now become a yearly tradition for some manufacturers to launch fake cars, or advertise hilariously impossible features. We’re taking a look at some of the best car jokes circulating on the world wide web today.

BMW have a long history of April Fool’s Day ads and they have been getting in on the fun since the early 1980’s. A press release appeared on their website today – advertising the new “artificial g-force generator” which claims to use kinetic energy from the engine and direct it at the passengers faces via the air conditioning vents. The car even delivers small electric shocks to the driver, recreating the exhilaration of high speed driving in the school-run traffic. BMW had a sporting try, but we aren’t falling for this one!

Our favourite was BMW’s April Fool’s ad from 2009 featuring their NASA developed magnetic tow technology (MTT). The feature claimed to used a magnetic tractor beam to allow your car to be pulled along by the car in front, without their knowledge, while you switch off the engine, sit back and relax – “why burn your fuel, when you can burn somebody else’s?”

Mini have officially released the Mini Cooper T today. The new T model miraculously claims to run on tea, claiming “tea economy” of 40 miles per cup. The fuel tank also features their patented “dunk avoidance technology” – no sneaky dunking of biscuits going on here! We are picturing fuel pumps offering earl grey, decaf, or even PG tips if you’re feeling fancy! A very British joke albeit totally implausible.

Vauxhall have jumped on the FIFA 2014 World Cup bandwagon with the launch of the Brazil themed Vauxhall Astra Copacabana. The special edition car includes innovative features such as grass upholstery, sand filled footwells and even a cocktail dispenser. The Brazilian theme doesn’t stop there, the Astra also features a horn which plays the Samba or the melodic sounds of the Vuvuzela.

Formula 1 sponsors Red Bull have also joined in on the fun announcing that new interactive steering wheels will be tested at the upcoming Bahrain Grand Prix. The new wheels will allow drivers to tweet live during the race. The new technology would certainly be entertaining – although it might prove to be a minor distraction when driving at 200 mph!

The cars mentioned above might not be real, however if you are looking for a new or used vehicle, look no further than the Car Loan Warehouse.
