The Best Crossovers of 2016

September 19, 2016

Booming in the UK the practical and trendy crossover cars are a popular alternative for families. Compared to the gas-guzzling 4×4’s, the front wheel drive variants still maintain the commanding driving position that the larger SUV’s are known for, whilst keeping the running costs considerably lower.

With a vast range coming on the market, they are increasingly becoming the go to family cars. The Nissan Qashqai, Skoda Yeti and Mazda CX-5  are amongst the best-selling crossovers on the market and have plenty in common; with a good deal of interior space, the choice of different engines and solid record for reliability what’s not to like! Voted the best car to own consecutively for the last three years, the Skoda Yeti has been voted as the Driver Power winner, giving the number one Nissan Qashqai some definite competition.

Due to the ever-increasing success of the crossover models, smaller crossovers are becoming more attractive as everyday cars. The Nissan Duke, Peugeot 2008 and MINI Countryman have the advantage of even lower running costs than its larger alternatives, although there is a little less space in these vehicles.

As for the Nissan Qashqai, it is the UK best-selling crossover. Nissan was one of the first car manufacturers to produce a crossover; with the slick collaboration of the 4×4 style alongside hatchback dimensions it took a while before rival brands were able to catch up. Whether you want a petrol, diesel, manual or xtronic automatic the Qashqai has something to suit everyone’s needs. The Nissan Qashqai is made for families, with excellent storage capacities and an electronic handbrake to free up additional storage space in the centre; it really makes the most of its interior.

It looks like a continuous boom for this segment of the car industry. With the attractive size, fashionable style and general practicality you really can’t go wrong!
