Review: VW Polo GTI 2015

March 26, 2015

After years of being dominated by its ‘big brother’ the Golf GTI, 2015’s Polo finally has something to shout about – and we want in on the action! If you want to find out more about the VW Polo GTI, our 2015 review looks at why the Germans want us to take notice of their latest hot hatch. And if you’re after a new set of wheels but can’t find the funds, our VW Polo GTI finance options should help!

Design

Since Volkswagen unveiled their 2015 Polo GTI at October’s Paris Motor Show, we’ve been eager to see if the end product was worthy of all the hype. Facing competition from the likes of the Fiesta ST, it’s easy to see why VW wanted their small hatchback to stand up and be counted! While it retains the understated image of the Polo, this latest version is undoubtedly more impressive. In terms of design, the new 1.8 litre petrol engine is just the first of many changes.

Performance & Handling

If you’ve had your eye on the VW Polo GTI, 2015 brings with it plenty of performance updates – and we’re impressed. The TSI petrol engine is 11 bhp up on the last model, packing a hefty 189 bhp. The GTI speeds from 0-62 mph faster than the Peugeot 208 GTi – and even the entry-level Polo GTI proves its worth as a supermini, using its size and stiffer suspension to its advantage on twisting roads. If you’re looking for tighter steering and a quicker response, the optional Sport button will set you back £245.

2015 Polo GTI Specs

  • Engine: 1.8 litre, 189 bhp
  • Transmission: Six-speed manual, front wheel drive
  • 0-62 mph: 6.7 secs
  • Top speed:147 mph
  • CO2/Economy:139 g/km/47.1 mpg

Features

In the cabin, not a whole lot has changed. Its simple yet stylish design delivers on everything we’ve come to expect from the Polo and the GTI badge on the steering wheel looks smart, while the sports seats bring a smattering of colour along with their traditional tartan. The in-cabin Bluetooth and infotainment system ensure that the GTI remains up to date with the latest technology.
